Giovanni Bellini, Madonna and Child, late 1480s

This beautiful picture, painted in the late 1480s, is a work of Giovanni Bellini’s maturity. Unusually, the cloth of honor behind the figures is off center, revealing a distant landscape that in its light and atmosphere looks forward to the works of Giorgione and Titian.
